(Yes, I just hashtagged my blog title.)
I used to do reading challenges all the time. Then they got stressful. They were too limiting. I got stressed out when I couldn’t complete a challenge. And then the challenges stopped being fun.
I haven’t done a reading challenge in years… not since mid-2009 in fact. (Seems so long ago!) I’ve adamently declared how much reading challenges weren’t for me, even extremely recently… But there is one that was announced today that seems much more up my alley.
This is the second year that Random House has done their Reading Bingo Challenge – I hadn’t participated last year, but it certainly looked like a lot of fun. There’s a lot more freedom with this challenge, as this isn’t limited to a certain genre, author gender, author nationality, etc etc…
I also like the fact that I have many books on the TBR piles that will work wonderfully for this challenge. I won’t have to go out scrounging for new books that I don’t own, and this will motivate me to read what I already have.
My reading so far this year (yes, I realize that we’re only 7 days into it) hasn’t been too great yet – I’m in the middle of 3 books, and none of them are really grabbing me yet. I am looking forward to a little bit more purposeful reading, and the chance to hopefully cut down on the ever increasing TBR piles.
Are you participating in any reading challenges this year? Are you going to be playing along with Random House’s Reading Bingo?
