Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy

Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy - Ally CarterI didn’t think it was possible, but she has most certainly done it. Ally Carter has written a book that is even cuter than I’d Tell You I Love You But Then I’d Have to Kill You.

After my super-crazy-fantastic day yesterday (also known as The Drowsy Chaperone Day), I decided that I needed a day to do nothing all day other than curl up with a book. As I had picked this up yesterday at the WBB, and have been waiting for it for quite a while, decided it would be the perfect escape for the day. And let me tell you, it was fabulous.

It starts off with Cammie getting a debriefing at the CIA after the Josh fiasco from last semester. (Don’t want to say too much as it would spoil Love You Kill You if you haven’t read it yet but plan on doing so – which I completely recommend.) It’s the beginning of the winter semester at Gallagher Academy, and what would spy school be without crazy field trips where you have to get to a secret location without any spies tracking you?

And if you didn’t think life could get more complicated than going to an all-girls boarding school where you trained to be a spy, try adding cute male students to the mix. Especially when these guys don’t appear to be exactly what they say they are.

I love the way Carter writes; it hooks me immediately. Her stories are touching, humorous and never fail to put a smile to my face. She has written believable characters that go to such a cute school that makes me almost wish I could go back through my high school years – but only if I could be a Gallagher Girl.

Of course, if you’re reading this, you probably have at least a Level Four clearance and know all about the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women – that it isn’t really a boarding school for privileged girls, and that, despite our gorgeous mansion and manicured grounds, we’re not snobs. We’re spies.

The only thing I wish had been different about this book was that Cammie’s friends – Bex, Liz and (most specifically) Macey – got a bit more screen time (page time?), but that is probably just my penchant for preferring the sidekicks speaking.

I am excited for the next book in the series already!

  5. After reading your post & re-reading the post on the first book, I’ve added the first book to my wishlist. I’m just trying to figure out why I didn’t add it in the first place! Totally sounds like something I’d like. :)
