Akin to Anne: Tales of Other Orphans

L.M. Montgomery - Akin to AnneThis was the first book of Montgomery’s short stories I read; it was years ago, and I think the only reason I read it was because it mentioned Anne in the title – you know how it is, when you love something you devour everything that is even remotely related to it. I haven’t read it since I was quite young, and it was a lovely little revisit.

Most of these stories were written before Montgomery started the Anne books, so, like all collections of Montgomery’s stories, there are certain stories that are familiar, as they have somewhat been incorporated or rewritten to be included in some of her novels. Each of the stories features an orphan who finds love, whether it’s from long-lost family members or friends, and while each of the stories has a little bit of heartbreak in them, they all end so happily and give such a feeling of hope and love. This is such a feel good book, and I’m so happy that I spent the time rereading it.

My favourites in this anthology were The Running Away of Chester, Miss Sally’s Company and Charlotte’s Ladies.

    So true.

I haven’t read any of LMM’s short stories in such a long time. I need to pull them out again. :)
