When I first read Twilight, the first book in this series, I was not happy with the conclusion of the book at all. After I had picked it up a couple more times to reread my favourite parts, I started to really love the story, so I have been waiting in anticipation for New Moon.
This book picks up in September of the next school year; Bella’s still dating Edward, a vampire, and he still refuses to turn her into a vampire, no matter how much she wants it.
Her birthday turns into a bit of an incident – she’s celebrating with Edward’s family (again, all vampires), when she gets a paper cut. Obviously, any sort of bleeding when you’re in room full of vampires is not going to go over well – one of Edward’s brothers accidentally looses control over himself, and that’s when things start to go downhill for Bella. The Cullens’ decide to leave town, and Bella’s left with her world crashing down on her.
I was so tempted to stop reading this book after the third chapter. So tempted. As it was, I had to leave it alone for a few hours before I would allow myself to go back to it. I was getting quite frustrated with how the story was turning out – I mean, really, what’s the point of a vampire book if the vampires leave after the third chapter?
I really should have trusted Meyer from the beginning. Not only did the lovely vampires come back (and oh, they came back with even more vampires than in the previous book), but while they are away Meyer also introduces us to a pack of werewolves. While these werewolves aren’t nearly as wonderful or entrancing as the Cullens are, they are still intriguing. I liked how much Meyer played with the animosity between the vampires and werewolves, while having the two groups still at truce with each other.
I still feel that these books are some of the best vampire stuff that has come out lately, and can’t wait to see what Meyer does in the next book. I want to explore the Volturi more; I want to know why certain vampires’ special abilities don’t work on Bella; and oh, I want more Alice!

my only problem with New Moon is how vulnerable and weak Bella seems to be.
I know it gives a more empathetic, humane touch and allows for Edward to step in at coincidentally opportune moments but, come on, get a backbone !!!
To a point, I agree with you… but I can understand why she would have become like that; not only was her world turned upsidedown, but the cornerstones of everything she depended on disappeared when it righted itself again. So yes, maybe it was overdone a little bit, but, like I said, I can understand why. She did seem to grow a little bit of a backbone again after Jacob came along, too. –C

I haven’t read the first book but have picked up so many times in the store. Based on your review of the second book I’m tempted to pick up the first.
Oh, Lisa, you really ought to read both books; they’re quite good. You’ll love Alice & Edward Cullens. –C

I’m about halfway through this book and am loving it. I’m glad to hear that there is a second in the series. My one question is Bella seems to make references to falling down a lot and I feel like maybe I missed something. Does she ever tell us why she tends to fall more than the average person or is she just clumsy? There seems to be more to it than that.
Ummmm…. I think she’s just clumsy. It never really gets into why she keeps falling down… –C

Yes I totally agree. Twilight is an excellent read. It has just the right amount of romance and suspense in it. I absolutely LOVE Edward. He has such an interesting personality and it always makes me laugh. Everyone should definitely read this series if they ever have the chance.

ok so i read it, and OMG i am no obssessed!!
goodness I LOVE EDWARD too!!! haha
i am SO excited on how many books she is going to write, like how she is going to write other versions of the books in different people’s perspectives and how she is right now definitely going to write four books to add to the story line and maybe more!!
It just doesnt get any better than that!!
i really like jacob, but it kind of bugs me that he can’t seem to see bella’s side of it. that he won’t give the Cullens a chance, and same for Edward not giving Jacob much of a chance..
and on the treaty thing, does it even count if the person wants to be bittne? and couldn’t they just go up to the vampires who live in alaska and have them bite her, and then if they can’t handle it protect her so she can transform?
maybe that will happen in the end :)
oh well i LOVE these books!!!
any other suggestions for me to read and get hooked on while i wait for the never coming sequels of twilight and AGATB?? lol

I Like Jacob too, bug he does get irksome. Obviously one of the reasons that he’s so against the Cullens and Edward is because he has a thing for Bella. Poor Jacob…against Edward he really doesn’t stand a chance with her.

Hey just wanted to let all the Twilight and New Moon fans out there that the release date for the next book in the series ( Eclipse ) is set for August 7th, and the first chapter of the book will be available in special editions of New Moon starting on May 5th. For more info go to Stephenie Meyer’s official website, stepheniemeyer.com, where you can see the book cover and read an excerpt.
Put it on the calendars!

Hey just wanted to say I love the series too. What is starting to bug me a bit now though is how in depth and real the relationship between Bella and Jacob seems to be whereas Edward and Bella are madly in love but it feels a little shallow or hastily thrown together. I’d like to see their relationship get some more depth in the third book, and if Bella isn’t a vampire by the end I’m rewriting the damn thing!
