Wren is a retriever – she finds and steals back things that have gone missing. Usually the jobs are pretty straightforward, but this time it’s not the case. Someone has stolen a piece of a building that contains a strong protection spell, and Wren has to enlist help from a demon, an insane mage and apparently some other people in order to hunt it down.
Well, I couldn’t do it. I hate not finishing a book, but after the half-way point, I just couldn’t bring myself to read any further.
The plot was alright, I didn’t feel anything more than indifference towards the characters, but it was the narration that got to me. I felt like everything was … well, it didn’t get along too well with me. I don’t enjoy sentence fragments in the middle of a novel that leave me rereading the paragraph numerous times trying to figure out what exactly that sentence was supposed to mean. Same goes for paragraph upon paragraph that just describes a room. Ah well, perhaps Rach is right and I’ve become a bit of a literary snob…

I always find it so sad when I can’t finish a book. Sorry you wasted time on a dud. Oh, and I’m loving the new look! It’s very pretty.
